FLOTATION

Here is where EPS foam comes in. EPS has more flotation than PU foam. Although a little more difficult to shape, it is worth the added time. I use MARKO foam exclusively and have been pleased with its performance.

Having more flotation inherent in the foam lets you make the choice between thinning your normal board out a little to get a little more performance, leaving your standard thickness the same in order to struggle less with paddling, or even going thicker to make sure you catch every single wave you want. Often times people with out the proper float will become tired in the water from struggling to paddle and this will ultimately lead to fatigue and improper foot placement when standing up on boards. If you get up with your feet out of position, you lose valuable time correcting your mistake or possibly worse, fall off the board altogether.

I have found that with almost all “pop out” epoxies there is a strong disconnect between the wave and my feet. I feel above the wave and not connected with it. The combination of MARKO foam, carbon fiber and the epoxy resin that we use, gets you back to that connected feeling while ultimately achieving a better and longer lasting surfboard.
